Minted in the heart of the ancient Inca Empire, the coin has been out of issue for more than half a century. As a result, it was hard to find the 1/5 Libra gold coin even in Peru in the years when it was minted. To make matters worse, significant quantities were damaged in circulation and melted to recover the precious gold over the past century, leaving relatively few for today’s collectors and historians. Amazingly, this coin is offered in superb uncirculated condition. A rarely seen icon of the Inca Empire, it is as rich in ancient history and culture as it is in coveted gold and is increasingly hard to find today.
