One Lincoln Penny from every year, from 1909 to 2008, presented in custom panels with a handsome display case.
One of America’s favorite coins for more than a century, the Lincoln Penny is treasured for the exquisite portrait of President Abraham Lincoln and the original Wheat Ears reverse design that disappeared over 60 years ago. It is also America’s most enduring coin — the only coin in history to feature the same design for a full century. Today, though, it is increasingly difficult to find even one or two vintage coins, let alone a complete collection of every year of issue. Now, the Danbury Mint is opening its vaults to offer a limited number of collectors the rare chance to secure The First Century of Lincoln Pennies Collection — a complete collection of spectacular Lincoln Pennies from each of the first 100 years of issue, from the first-year 1909 coin with the original Wheat Ears reverse design to the 100th anniversary coin in 2008.
When the Lincoln Penny was first minted over a century ago in 1909, it was an innovation in U.S. coinage history — the first circulating U.S. coin to feature a president and the first to be designed by a noted sculptor. It was part of President Theodore Roosevelt’s ambitious plan to transform America’s coinage with bold new designs to honor America’s unique history and greatest patriots. The original Lincoln Penny was struck with the legendary Wheat Ears design on the reverse. One of the most cherished coin designs of all time, the Wheat Ears image, which is a tribute to America’s agricultural heritage, was last made in 1958. To mark the Lincoln Penny’s 50th anniversary in 1959, the reverse changed to the Lincoln Memorial…and the very last Lincoln Memorial coin in 2008 was also the landmark 100th anniversary edition — the first coin in U.S. history to be struck for 100 consecutive years!
Coins minted in 1965 and later are in coveted uncirculated condition, while each coin from 1909 to 1964 is in collectible circulated condition with all major design details visible. Each year’s historic coin is set into a custom panel, making it safe to examine on both sides without fear of damage from dirt or fingerprints. The panel protects the coin and identifies the year of issue, making the collection easy to organize and display. What’s more, the collection comes with a magnificent custom-crafted faux leather book-style display at no additional charge. Shipped at about the same time as your third coin shipment, the collection name is beautifully embossed on both the front and the spine, and the cover opens to reveal the fascinating history of the Lincoln Penny. It is a stylish addition to any home or office and is the perfect way to store and organize the complete collection of Lincoln Pennies from the first 100 years of issue.
